JAKARTA, Sketsa.id – October 20, 2025, marks one year since  as President Prabowo Subianto and Vice President Gibran Rakabuming Raka asumed leadership of Indonesia. This initial period has been a mix of significant public support and pointed criticism over crucial issues. Data and reports from various credible sources indicate a presidency with notable achievements, yet facing persistent challenges that need addressing.

Public Satisfaction: Strong Backing with Critical Notes
Public satisfaction with the administration remains relatively high. An independent survey conducted in early October 2025 indicated that approximately 78-83% of the public is satisfied with the overall direction of the Prabowo-Gibran leadership. Key factors driving this satisfaction are a perception of firm leadership, more precisely targeted social aid programs, and flagship initiatives like the Free Nutritious Meals (Program Makan Bergizi Gratis – MBG), whose benefits are starting to be felt, especially by families in remote areas.

However, about 19% of respondents expressed dissatisfaction, primarily citing the high cost of basic commodities and limited job opportunities. This dissatisfied demographic largely consists of former supporters of rival candidates from the previous election. The administration’s average performance score sits at 3 out of 10, suggesting that while progress exists, public expectations have not been fully met.

Economy: Forward Steps amid Tangible Obstacles
In the economic sector, the government faces substantial challenges amidst global instability. The MBG program is a noted positive, helping to ease the burden on poor households while improving child nutrition. The distribution of social assistance is also considered more efficient compared to the previous period.

Despite this, criticism arises from the stagnant economic conditions for most of the population, with a segment reporting a worsening situation. Unstable prices of basic goods and limited employment remain the primary public grievances. Coordination among government institutions is seen as weak, and policy communication often confuses the public. Several analysts have suggested a cabinet reshuffle, particularly in the energy and food sectors, to improve effectiveness.

Social Development: A Strong Foundation in Education and Health
The social sector is an area of reasonably solid achievement. In education, efforts to expand learning access in underdeveloped regions have been praised as a long-term investment in human resources. In healthcare, broader service guarantees, including integration with the MBG program, have made the public feel more protected.

Challenges persist, however, especially in remote inland areas where health facilities remain difficult to access.

International Diplomacy: Active and Assertive
Foreign policy is a standout strength of this administration. Within one year, President Prabowo has undertaken 33 visits to 25 countries, focusing on economic and humanitarian diplomacy. New trade agreements and Indonesia’s active role in global issues, such as peace efforts in the Middle East, have garnered appreciation, even from opposition circles. These steps have reinstated Indonesia’s position as a significant player on the world stage.

The main challenge lies in translating assertive diplomatic statements into concrete actions, such as more significant humanitarian aid.

Law and Human Rights: A Record Needing Serious Attention
Conversely, the law and human rights sector remains a weak point. Issues like the forced detention of environmental activists and demonstrators, as well as prison overcrowding, have continued from the previous era. The issue of the politicization of the military (TNI) and police (Polri) is also under scrutiny, with a majority of survey respondents rating law enforcement as poor. Weak policy communication has further worsened public perception. Although there are praised anti-corruption efforts, loopholes for the abuse of power remain visible.

The first year of the Prabowo-Gibran leadership is the opening chapter of a long journey. There are notable achievements in social sectors and diplomacy, but the economy and law remain significant homework. With policy adjustments and better coordination, this administration has the opportunity to meet public expectations. The people await concrete actions that go beyond promises and tangibly transform daily life. The journey is long, and the public’s eye continues to watch every step. (*)
