GAZA, Sketsa.id – A glimmer of hope has emerged amid the ongoing violence in the Gaza Strip. The Palestinian resistance group Hamas has expressed a positive response to a 60-day ceasefire proposal mediated by Qatar and Egypt.
In an official statement released via its Telegram channel, Hamas announced the conclusion of internal consultations with various Palestinian factions and resistance fighters regarding the latest ceasefire framework.
“We have completed our internal consultations, along with discussions with Palestinian factions and resistance forces, concerning the latest proposal by the mediators to halt the aggression against our people in Gaza,” the statement read on Saturday (July 5, 2025).
Hamas, which currently governs the Gaza Strip, also declared its full readiness to enter a new round of negotiations to discuss the technical implementation of the proposed ceasefire framework.
Details of the Proposal Remain Confidential, But Leaks Emerge
While Hamas has not disclosed the full contents of the proposal, several Israeli media outlets have reported leaked details. According to these reports, one key point includes Hamas agreeing to release 10 living Israeli hostages and hand over the remains of 18 others over the course of five phases during the ceasefire period.
In exchange, Israel would reportedly release a large number of Palestinian prisoners in stages and withdraw its military forces from specific areas in Gaza as agreed upon.
Channel 12 News in Israel estimates that approximately 50 Israeli hostages remain in Gaza, with around 20 believed to be alive. Meanwhile, Israel is reportedly holding over 10,400 Palestinians in detention.
Deal Could Be Finalized Within 36 Hours If Approved
Channel 12 also cited Israeli officials indicating that if Hamas formally accepts the proposal, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is prepared to dispatch a delegation to Qatar to finalize the agreement.
“It would not take more than a day and a half,” a source said.
Netanyahu is also scheduled to visit Washington, D.C., next week for a meeting with President Donald Trump, where the situation in Gaza is expected to be a central topic of discussion.
Death Toll in Gaza Continues to Rise
Since the outbreak of the conflict on October 7, 2023, Israeli military operations in Gaza have resulted in the deaths of more than 57,200 people, the majority of whom are women and children. The international community continues to call for an end to the violence and a sustainable peace solution. (*)
