Washington, Sketsa,id – U.S. President Donald Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin held a high-stakes meeting in Alaska on Friday (15/8/2025), marking their first face-to-face talks since the Ukraine war began in 2022. While the summit yielded no immediate ceasefire agreement for Ukraine, both leaders signaled a potential thaw in U.S.-Russia relations after years of tensions.

The closed-door talks lasted 2 hours and 45 minutes – significantly shorter than the scheduled 7 hours – but concluded with rare public camaraderie. At a joint press conference, Trump thanked Putin for making the trip, to which the Russian leader responded in English: “Next time in Moscow,” drawing laughter from attendees.

Trump, however, appeared noncommittal about visiting Russia.
“That’s interesting. I don’t know, I’ll be a little bit critical,” he remarked cryptically.

The U.S. president emphasized their personal rapport but hinted at political obstacles: “We could’ve done great things together long ago, but we had the Russia, Russia, Russia hoax stopping us.”
He did not elaborate on the alleged “hoax.”(*)
