Teheran, Sketsa.id – Iran has formally demanded that five Arab states in the Gulf region pay reparations for the war launched by the United States and Israel, accusing them of allowing their territories to be used for attacks against Iran.

The demand was made in a letter to United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres on Monday (April 13, 2026). Iran’s ambassador to the UN, Amir Saeid Iravani, named Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, Qatar, the United Arab Emirates, and Jordan as having permitted the US to use their territories to strike Iran. In some cases, he added, those nations were directly involved in “illegal armed attacks targeting civilian objects.”

“The Arab states must provide full compensation to the Islamic Republic of Iran, including compensation for all material and moral damages suffered as a result of their actions in violation of international law,” Iravani wrote.

Iran did not specify the amount of compensation sought. The move counters earlier claims by Gulf states that Iran should be held responsible for war damages. Iravani dismissed those claims as “legally indefensible” and detached from factual and legal realities.

Iran also rejected UN Security Council Resolution 2817, which condemned Tehran for attacks on several Gulf states. The resolution, sponsored by Bahrain and co-sponsored by 136 nations, was described by Iran as “clearly unjust” and “legally indefensible.”

The US and Israel launched strikes against Iran on February 28, 2026, stating their aim was to dismantle Iran’s nuclear and ballistic missile programs. The attacks killed dozens of senior officials, including Iran’s longtime Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, as well as more than 1,300 civilians. In addition to military sites, the US and Israel targeted energy infrastructure, bridges, universities, and schools.

Notably, in January, the UAE’s Foreign Ministry issued a statement saying it would not allow its airspace, land, or territorial waters to be used for hostile military actions against Iran, reaffirming its commitment to neutrality and regional stability. (*)
